The Poem Project – Culminating Activity

Learning Goal

Use digital arts to create a 1 minute spoken word poem video.

Goal for Today

Plan my culminating 1 minute poem project by selecting a poem and completing a detailed storyboard.

Let’s read the poem “Winter Sketches” by Charles Reznikoff.

Now that black ground and bushes—
saplings, trees,
each twig and limb—are suddenly white with snow,
and earth becomes brighter than the sky,

that intricate shrub
of nerves, veins, arteries—
myself—uncurls
its knotted leaves
to the shining air.

Upon this wooded hillside,
pied with snow, I hear
only the melting snow
drop from the twigs.

Success Criteria
How will you know you have created a successful storyboard?
We will come up with the success criteria after doing our gallery walk.
We will do a gallery walk and look at storyboards that were done in the past.  Jot down an idea, question, comment or something you would change on a sticky note and attach it to the paper beside the storyboard.

One of the storyboards we saw was by Maddie B.
Here is a link to her storyboard.
This is her completed poem project.

Steps to Success
1) Create a group of 1, 2, or 3 people.

2) Brainstorm a favourite poem or song that you think you could make a video out of and consider the success criteria we developed.

3) Each person in the group will be filling out a daily journal which will be found in Google Classroom.

4) Storyboard,  and pre-produce your film or animation.
5) Shoot or animate.
6) Edit in iMovie, Dragonframe, Flash and/or Garageband.
7) Show to peers and teacher to make new edits.
8) Submit.
